Verdict is in for man accused of stabbing sister
07:14 PM EDT on Friday, August 12, 2005
6NEWS Roger Pointer has been found guilty of stabbing his sister and her children more than 20 times. LINCOLNTON, NC – A Lincoln County man accused of stabbing his sister and her children 22 times has been found guilty.
Roger Pointer was found guilty Friday just before noon. Pointer had taken the stand in his defense Wednesday telling the court he suffered from anxiety disorders and was taking an anti-anxiety medication called Klonopin.
He said the night of the attack he took three times his normal dose and blacked out during the attack. He said his memory picks back up after the stabbing when he was being arrested for the attack. Pointer’s psychiatrist told the jury on Thursday the drug could have had an intoxicating effect like Pointer described, but experts said the drug works like a tranquilizer and if Pointer had that much of the drug in him --he would not have been able to attack his sister and her children.
In the end the jury agreed with experts and found Pointer guilty on all counts. The judge sentenced him to 14 years in prison.
