CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have made an arrest in a deadly Thursday morning shooting in west Charlotte.
Police charged Connell Montigo Muskelly, of Augusta, Georgia, in the murder of 25-year-old Johnny Peay.
Peay was shot and killed around 4:30 a.m. on Garibaldi Avenue near Camp Greene Street. Authorities said Peay was shot in the back in a driveway.
MEDIC said they transported Peay to Carolinas Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.
Authorities took Muskelly in to custody at a residence off of Boyd Street around 10:30 a.m.
Detectives said that Peay and Muskelly knew one another and have no reason to believe the shooting was a random act of violence.
Police have not yet released a motive for the shooting.
