21-year-old charged with murder after Wednesday shooting

A 21-year-old has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting her boyfriend.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have charged a 21-year-old with murder after a man was shot and later died Wednesday evening.

Officers were called to the 5900 block of Fairmarket Place off the Plaza Extension early-Wednesday evening. 

Upon their arrival, they found 27-year-old Christopher Bernard Watson, Jr. suffering a gunshot wound. Watson was taken to the hospital and later died.

CMPD charged Rece Cherrell King early Thursday morning with Watson's murder.

She has been taken into custody in the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office. Her first court appearance is scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Police believe King and Watson previously knew each other. Neighbors say that the two were dating.
