CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have released the identity of the suspect arrested in connection with a shooting outside a northern Charlotte recreation center.
Police say the victim was shot during the course of a robbery around 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon outside the Sugaw Creek Recreation Center on West Sugar Creek Road. The suspect then fled the scene an a white Pontiac SUV.
A short time later, CMPD located the vehicle and took the suspect, Jango Touray, 18, into custody.
The shooting victim was in surgery late Sunday, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Capt. Rod Farley. Police have not released the name of the victim.
Touray is charged with attempted murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and resist, obstruct or delay.
The Sugaw Creek Rec Center has activities for children, teens and adults and features a gymnasium, a stage, multi-purpose rooms and a kitchen, according to its website.
The investigation into the shooting continues. Police encourage anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Tipsters can remain anonymous and are eligible for rewards for information that leads to an arrest.
