WAXHAW, N.C. -- Sixteen people were charged after a hidden operation that spanned three months uncovered drug dealers selling pot, heroin, cocaine, mushrooms and other drugs in Waxhaw.
The undercover operation began in June, and Waxhaw Police Department detectives said they were able to buy the drugs from street-level dealers in Waxhaw.
During one drug purchase, detectives said they were able to buy pot in the bathroom of a McDonald's while the suspect was working. Detectives said one alleged drug dealer also sold them a handgun and a half-gram of heroin.
Police say Waxhaw residents helped in making the 16 arrests.
The charges for the 16 arrested range from selling and delivering marijuana, cocaine, heroin and LSD, selling drugs within 1,000 feet of a school or daycare, maintaining a dwelling/vehicle to sell drugs.
The 16 alleged drug dealers were not named in the report.
