HICKORY, N.C. – The Hickory Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place at a gas station on Saturday.

The incident happened at the Quality Mart Shell gas station on Rhyne Blvd around 2:18 a.m.  According to officials more than 30 shots were fired and ended up hitting three occupied vehicles in the parking lot.

The investigation revealed that two groups were shooting at one another. Investigators say the shoot out stemmed from an argument at the La Rumba nightclub.

During the shooting, a 31-year-old man was shot in his back while sitting in the parking lot.  He was sent to Catawba Valley Medical Center and is expected to be okay.

Investigators say a burgundy Camry involved in the shooting attempted to flee the scene, and hit another car.

Investigators say the burgundy Camry was driven by Anwar Powell and Terrell Mitchell was the passenger in the car.

Both are facing a slew of charges including attempted murder. Powell’s bond was set at $420,000 and Mitchell’s was set at $462,500

Police believe a red Dodge or Chrysler minivan with a gray rear bumper and a mid to late 90’s white Chevrolet Suburban with dark rocker panels may have also been involved in this incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hickory Police Department at 828-328-5551.
