2 charged in June 2016 west Charlotte deadly shooting

Two men were arrested in connection with the shooting death of Tony Russell.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police identified and charged two people in connection with the deadly shooting in west Charlotte from June 2016.

CMPD arrested 25-year-old ZhayMilik Phillips and 18-year-old Jordan Ardrey for their involvement in the murder of Tony Jamarr Russell.

Phillips was arrested Friday morning without incident, CMPD says. Phillips was charged with murder, firearm by felon and assault with a deadly weapon intent to kill.

Ardrey was in custody of Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office for charges unrelated to this case. He was charged transported to CMPD headquarters where he was interviewed by detectives and was later charged with murder, firearm by felon and assault with a deadly weapon intent to kill.

Russell, 30, was shot and killed on Effingham Road at Tuckaseegee Road around midnight back in June 2016.

CMPD says those with additional information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS.
