LILLINGTON, N.C. (AP) -- Two North Carolina men are facing rape and attempted murder charges after a 17-year-old girl was pulled from a river with gunshot wounds to her face, abdomen and hand.
The Harnett County Sheriff's Office said Monday they're holding 21-year-old Jose Trinidad Soto Sanchez and 28-year-old Jose Juan Alvarez, who live at the same Spring Lake address. They were arrested Sunday and charged with first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping and attempted murder.
A sheriff's department official did not return a call to The Associated Press on Monday. It's not known if the men had attorneys. Bond for both men was set at $1 million.
The victim was found in the Cape Fear River near Erwin on Sunday.
Sheriff Larry Rollins says the victim knew one of the suspects through her family.
