SAN ANTONIO -- An argument over car keys left one man dead inside Barton's Boozery, on San Antonio's west side, the morning after Christmas, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Officers were called to the 7000 block of W. Military Dr. Thursday for a reported shooting in progress around 2:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, investigators found 34-year-old Orlando Dewain Lopes, Jr. shot dead inside the bar, according to SAPD.

The 42-year-old bartender told police he had taken Lopes' car keys because the man appeared to be 'very intoxicated' and he didn't want Lopes to drive drunk.

Police said Lopes became aggressive and started arguing with the bartender. During the verbal exchange, Lopes pulled a .45-caliber Glock and pointed it at the bar employee.

The bartender, ready with his firearm, pulled out a 9 mm gun and demanded the patron to place his weapon on the ground. When the suspect refused, the bartender fired -- what he believed to be -- three shots at the man.

The bartender called police after checking to see if Lopes was still alive. He placed both guns on the bar counter and waited for SAPD to arrive, according to the police report.

Police said investigators reviewed video surveillance from the bar, as well as cell-phone video recorded by a witness.

Police are still investigating the incident.
