CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Three people were killed in a crash on Steele Creek Road after their vehicle went airborne and struck several large trees.
The Major Crash Investigation Unit responded to a call about a fatal car crash in the 8300 block of Steele Creek Road on Saturday morning around 2 a.m. A single vehicle ran off the road to the right.
The vehicle continued traveling on the grassy shoulder before going airborne and striking several large trees. The front seat passenger was ejected from the vehicle.
34-year-old Jason Derrick Lee who was the front seat passenger and 38-year-old Alphonso Jermaine Christian who was the rear seat passenger were pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver, 29-year-old Tyrell Orlando Paige, was transported from the scene to Carolinas Medical Center main by Medic, where they were pronounced deceased by the Emergency Room Doctor.
CMPD says speed was a factor in the crash and that all three occupants were not wearing their seatbelts.
