YORK COUNTY, S.C. -- Three Rock Hill-area schools went on lockdown Monday afternoon while authorities searched for a suspect who fled.

Rock Hill High School, Castle Heights Middle School and Independence Elementary Schools were all placed on lockdown about 2:30 Monday for about 10 minutes.

York County Sheriff's Deputies were looking for a suspect that ran from an officer. The search continued into the late afternoon in the Firetower and Edenvale Road area.

Classes at all three campuses will release at their normally-scheduled time.

The suspect, who York County officials identified as 20-year-old Heyward Stone Wurdemann, was apprehended in the 4 o'clock hour.

It's not clear what the circumstances are that led to the suspect fleeing from deputies.
