CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police has released the 911 call from the melee in NoDa last weekend.

A huge fight broke out at a party following the Carolina Awards Ball, and a video of it all was uploaded to YouTube, prompting CMPD to investigate.

The 911 call was taking place at the time the YouTube video was being recorded.

The owner of NDemand entertainment says it was a sore loser from the fashion show that started the brawl, and then it escalated to the point that chairs and tables were being thrown at people.

In the video player above, if you listen closely, you can hear some of the consternation in the background.

911 operator:  Sir, how many people?

Caller:  Uh, it's at least 200 people.

911 operator:  That are fighting?

Caller:  Yes, yes, yes.

Caller:  He has a sword and an ax. He has a sword and an ax.

Officers responded to 911 calls to 617 E. 28th Street, at the NDemand Entertainment Complex, around 2 a.m. Monday morning. By the time police arrived, many of the people had already left and not everyone was cooperating with the police.

CMPD said Thursday the investigation into how this got started and who’s involved continues.
The Carolina Awards Ball 2011, at a different facility, caused trouble as well.  According to NBC Charlotte archives, a fight started at the event and ended at the Doubletree Hotel with a fire.

No injuries were reported.
