ALBEMARLE, N.C. -- An Albemarle couple is facing child abuse charges after taking the children to the hospital for medical treatment.
Albemarle Police say Kayla Lynne Coffey-Baribault, the mother of the children, and her boyfriend, Lionel Joseph Tucker, took the two children to the Stanly County Regional Medical Center, where the two juveniles were receiving treatment for injuries they sustained by an unknown person.
Police were called to the hospital, and the investigation began. Through the course of the investigation, Albemarle Police say it was discovered that Coffey-Baribault and Tucker were responsible for the kids' injuries.
Coffey-Baribault and Tucker are both charged with child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury and child abuse inflicting serious physical injury.
Coffey-Baribault's bond was set at $20,000, while Tucker's was set at $50,000.
