It's been 14 years since Bessemer City had a police department of its own, but that's about to change.

Officers will be back on the beat there after a vote Monday night.

The 11-member force, complete with a chief, two sergeants, and eight officers will begin work in July.

During the 14-year absence of a city police force, the Gaston County Police Department provided coverage for the town.
