BLACKSBURG, S.C. (AP) -- A Blacksburg Middle School teacher has been charged with a sex crime involving a student.
The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reported (http://bit.ly/UNsIPR) that police say 61-year-old Randy Hawkins of Gaffney is charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
A police report says a witness saw Hawkins hit a 13-year-old girl on the buttocks with his hand. The incident was reported to police last month.
Cherokee County School Superintendent Quincie Moore says Hawkins is on paid administrative leave while the district investigates.
She says Hawkins taught a resources class and worked with special needs children. He has been with the school district for 7 years.
It was unclear if he has an attorney.
