MONROE, N.C. -- Duke Energy is the victim of a breaking and entering case.

Police responded to company’s location in the 1300 block of Goldmine Road in Monroe around 2 a.m. on Sunday.

Police say they arrived to find the main gate open. It appeared someone cut the lock and entered the electrical substation area.

Officers did not investigate inside of the fenced area because of safety concerns. However, they did notice scrap metal piled nearby. Nothing else appeared to be missing.
