RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. -- A brother and sister are accused of abuse charges after more than 50 dogs were found in a puppy mill earlier this month.
The sheriff’s office says Dean and Barbara Upchurch admitted to owning the dogs.
Dean Upchurch, 50, is charged with 41 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. He was arrested. Bond was set at $7,000.
Barbara Upchurch, 45, is charged with three counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty and one of instigating or promoting animal cruelty.
Rutherford County Animal Control seized the dogs from the home on Ferry Road.
The Humane Society of Charlotte took in the dogs, most of which have already been adopted.
