TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. -- The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office has joined the search for a man wanted in connection to the shooting of a volunteer Salisbury firefighter after the suspect car was found in Alexander County.
Officers are looking for 23-year-old Khari Duane McClelland who authorities believe may have ties to the Alexander County and surrounding areas.
Authorities said that McClelland and another suspect were in the process of stealing items from the home of Marcus Kauffman when he confronted the thieves.
During the confrontation, McClelland allegedly shot Kauffman in the back of the head before he and the second suspect fled the scene.
On Thursday, a suspect vehicle associated with McClelland was located by officers in Alexander County.
Investigators from Alexander County and Rowan County searched a home nearby and are currently following leads on McClelland’s whereabouts as they develop.
