CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. -- A Caldwell County child was struck in the head by a passing van while trick or treating Wednesday night. Now, officials are on the look-out for the driver who fled the scene.
Around 8:30 p.m., troopers say the boy was struck by the passenger-side mirror of a van near the intersection of Smokey Creek and Calico Roads in Lenoir. A chunk of the mirror was recovered from the scene.
Authorities say the 7-year-old by was conscious and talking when he was transported to Valdese Hospital from the scene.
