CONCORD, N.C. -- Police in Concord responded to a fatal hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian early Sunday morning.
Shortly after 2 a.m., Concord Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Concord Parkway South in reference to a pedestrian struck.
The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Juan Antonio Torres, Jr., of Concord.
Police say Torres was struck on the southbound right of way near the entrance to El Patron by 48-year-old Darrin Eugene Edwards.
Torres was pronounced on the scene.
Authorities say Edwards hit Torres in his 2014 Jeep Cherokee.
Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor; a blood test has been sent off to the State Bureau of Investigation lab for alcohol concentration testing.
Edwards is charged with one felony count of hit and run and one misdemeanor count of death by vehicle; he was arrested around 6 Sunday morning and booked in to the Cabarrus County Jail under a $100,000 bond.
