DENVER, N.C. – A Denver man was arrested Tuesday and is accused of sexually assaulting two young girls who were between the ages of five and 11-years-old.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office arrested Michael Van Benfield, 62 of Buoy Lane, after a complaint was filed September 9.
Benfield is charged with two felony counts each of first degree statutory rape, first degree sexual offense with a victim under 13-years-old, and taking indecent liberties with a minor.
The 11-year-old victim told her mother she was abused at various locations in Denver between 2000-2005.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office says the case is still under investigation and more charges will be filed.
Benfield is in jail under $500,000 bond.
