CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Frustrated detectives are asking for help after a man was stabbed to death as he was leaving the Lil’ Wayne concert Friday night.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department Spokesman, Robert Tufano, told reporters “we know that somebody saw somebody, this was a highly populated area.”
Police are pleading for the public's help after the murder at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater.
“We know people saw what was going on but we just really haven’t got the information that we need,” said Captain Cecil Brisbon.
Investigators say 25-year-old James Price had just left the Lil’ Wayne concert and was stabbed to death while defending his girlfriend in the gravel parking lot at the amphitheater.
Price's girlfriend told detectives the fight actually started before the concert.
“There was an altercation before the concert started where some individuals made some disparaging comments against the girlfriend,” Brisbon told reporters.
She was also hit in the parking lot fight.
“That again points to the chivalrous point; he was trying to defend the honor of his girlfriend.”
There is no surveillance video, and only a few witnesses have come forward so far. They believe the suspects took off in a black sedan.
“This is a tragedy, somebody lost their life and we really need as much assistance as we can get.”
If you can help, you could get a $5,000 reward. You can call in an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
