Man taken into custody after standoff in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have taken a man into custody after a brief standoff in east Charlotte Friday morning.

Police responded to a 911 call around  6 a.m. of a domestic violence assault that occurred at the 3000 block of Uxbridge Woods Court. 

Upon arrival officers determined that the victim was assaulted by 28-year-old Dustin Matthew Osborne inside an apartment at Uxbridge Woods Court. 

The victim stated that the Osborne was possibly armed with a firearm.  

Officers on scene were unable to make contact with Osborne inside and requested additional officers. 

The SWAT Team responded to the scene and set up a perimeter.  The apartment complex was  evacuated as a precautionary measure, according to police.

Police also closed Briar Creek Road between Green Oaks and Commonwealth Avenue around 7 a.m. during the standoff.

After about two hours, the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Osborne has been charged with assault on a female and assault by pointing a gun, according to police.

Briar Creek Road was reopened around 9 a.m.
