LANCASTER, S.C. -- The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office has apprehended an inmate who escaped custody by walking off from the designated area while working as part of an inmate work crew.

The Sheriff's Office says 22-year-old Anthony Scott Vincent fled the work area near Old Charles Street and Airport Road in Lancaster County around 2 p.m. on December 3.

Vincent was found in an abandoned house on 1st Street in Lancaster on Monday, authorities say. Investigators were checking all abandoned buildings in the area on suspicion that Vincent may be squatting.

When officers walked into the home on 1st Street, they report smelling "fresh cigarette smoke", and found Vincent and his girlfriend, 26-year-old Candice Crawford, hiding in a closet.

Vincent was arrested and charged with escape. Crawford is charged with harboring an escaped convict.

Both were taken to Lancaster County Detention Center where they remain, awaiting bond.

Authorities say Vincent was serving a 30-day commitment on a bench warrant at the Lancaster County Detention Center.
