CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The fight over North Carolina proposed marriage amendment took an ugly turn in one Charlotte neighborhood.
David and Mary Kulp live in Lansdowne in southeast Charlotte and the couple has three daughters.
Thursday morning someone took issue with the Amendment One sign. Not only did they steal it, they smeared excrement all over the pastor’s truck.
"Pastors aren’t perfect, so one of my first sinful reactions was frustration and anger," said David Kulp, who is a minister for an uptown church.
He discovered the vandalism early Thursday morning.
"They specifically jammed it all in between the lock and the handle so I would have to do something with it," he added.
This is the fifth time someone has stolen a sign out of the yard since March. The couple would replace it each time.
"That saddens me because I feel like we live in this great country. We’re so thankful for our freedoms," said Mary Kulp. "I do believe God's ways are best and I’m passionate about why we have the sign in our yard for the amendment.”
The Kulp’s have not explained to their girls why someone would to this. They hope those responsible for the vandalism change their ways.
"I think they should be personally convicted of what they have done. I want to have a conversation and say what they were trying to achieve and do you see how that would affect me and my family," said pastor Kulp.
