UNION COUNTY, N.C. -- A financial advisor who formerly practiced in Monroe is facing four charges stemming from accusations of embezzlement.

Criminal investigators with the North Carolina Department of Insurance say Ricky Gayland Crocker, Sr., of Monroe, embezzled more than $30,000 while working as a financial advisor for the MetLife Insurance Company.

In addition to the embezzlement, authorities say Crocker redirected funds from the sale of a stock certificate worth $58,604 into his personal business fund, Carolina Media Marketing Group, without the knowledge or consent if the customer.

Crocker is charged with two counts each of obtaining property by false pretense and embezzlement by an insurance agent, broker or administrator.

Crocker was booked in to the Union County Jail on February 13, and released after posting a $5000 bond.
