GASTONIA, N.C. -- A man who robbed a Gastonia bank at gunpoint Friday afternoon was chased down and captured a short time later, police say.

The robbery took place at PNC bank located at 3707 South New Hope Road.

"Bank employees stated that a male, armed with a weapon, entered the bank and demanded money from the teller.   The male then exited the bank with an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene in a vehicle," police said in a statement.

That robber was quickly identified as Wendell Troy Dryden, 32, who was found in the nearby Chateau Village Apartments and was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.

Dryden is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and is being held without bond at the Gaston County Jail.

Khaliff Lamar Culbertson, 30, was charged with marijuana possession and obstructing an officer during the investigation, according to police.
