GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) -- A Gastonia man has been charged with posing as a sheriff's deputy and pointing a gun at a woman.
The Gaston Gazette reported that 55-year-old Thomas Murray Russell was arrested Tuesday.
A newspaper carrier says a man blocked her bath Saturday morning and walked around her vehicle with a gun pointed at her. She said he told her he was a deputy conducting a community watch check.
The woman talked with police and then called the sheriff's department and was told they had no deputy named Russell.
Russell denies the charges.
