GREAT FALLS, S.C. -- A Great Falls Elementary School teacher is accused of child sex crimes.

Richard Jayson Jones, 47, was charged with criminal sexual conduct and committing a lewd act upon a child on Thursday, officials said.

According to the affidavit, between July 2007 and July 2010 Jones sexually abused a minor on multiple occasions.

The information is based on an investigation conducted by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division which included statements from the victim that the sexual abuse occurred, the affidavit states.

Authorities said the alleged crimes did not occur on school property.

Jones is being held at the Chester County Detention Center.
