CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A well-known local attorney was arrested Monday and charged with DWI and speeding.
Norman Butler, 61, defense attorney for several high-profile local cases, was pulled over Monday night on I-85 at Mallard Creek Road by North Carolina Highway Patrol.
NBC Charlotte has learned Butler pulled over, refused to take a breathalyzer, and was placed under arrest and charged.
Most recently and notably, Butler served as the defense attorney in the death penalty trial of Andre Hampton, the Charlottean found guilty of the beating death of his infant son, Elijah Burger. Hampton was sentenced to life in prison.
