HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Elementary school went on lockdown Friday afternoon after a nearby bank was robbed.
Huntersville Elementary School, located in the 200 block of Gilead Road, went on lockdown for a little over an hour at 12:30 Friday. School officials tell NBC Charlotte the lockdown was due to police activity in the area.
Huntersville Police say the Fifth Third Bank at 500 Gilead Road was robbed.
A black male wearing tinted glasses, black knit hat, black zip-up hoodie and dark cargo pants demanded money from the teller. The suspect is described as between 35 and 45-years-old with facial hair, possibly a goatee.
He fled the scene in an unknown direction.
Police in Mooresville are investigating an attempted robbery of a Fifth Thirds Bank just before 11 on Friday morning. Both Mooresville and Huntersville Police say they believe the two incidents are related.
