GASTON COUNTY, N.C. – An inmate that escaped from the Gaston County Correctional Center has been found.

Law enforcement was on the hunt for Jacob Hilton, they said he escaped from the minimum security facility Saturday afternoon.

He was later found walking along NC 275 in Dallas Stanley Highway, according to officials. Hilton was found four miles from the Gaston Correctional Center.

Hilton, 22, was serving three and a half years for possession of a firearm by a felon and numerous counts of breaking and entering.
 

NBC Charlotte inquired how Hilton was able to escape, our inquiry has not yet received a response.

Officials said they house approximately 250 male inmates who are nearing release.
