ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- An inmate who walked away from a work detail in Asheville has been recaptured.
The North Carolina Department of Public Safety says 51-year-old John R. Fullwood was caught shortly before 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the Haywood County town of Clyde, west of Asheville.
Officials say Fullwood walked away from an assignment at the North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville on Friday morning.
Corrections officers have taken Fullwood to the Mountain View Correctional Center in Spruce Pine. He is charged with felony escape.
Fullwood was serving six to eight years at Buncombe Correctional Center for firing a gun into an occupied vehicle in Haywood County in 2009.
