CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A CMPD officer was taken to a hospital following a crash with another vehicle driven by an intoxicated driver, police say.

Saturday morning around 2 a.m., a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer was assisting a stranded tractor trailer in the right-hand lane in the 7000 block of Independence Boulevard when authorities say an intoxicated driver slammed into the officer's marked patrol car. The patrol car had lights engaged, police say.

The officer was transported to the hospital for minor injuries and has since been released.

The driver of the vehicle, Christopher Parrish, was also taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Parrish was then arrested and charged with felony serious injury by vehicle, DWI and failure to comply with driver's license restrictions.
