ALBEMARLE, N.C. -- The Stanly County Sheriff's Office is investigating a the circumstances around a man found dead and duct-taped to a chair in the basement of his home on Sunday night.
Sunday evening, deputies were dispatched to the home of 27-year-old Jason Whitney Burleson in reference to a medical emergency.
Upon their arrival, deputies found Burleson deceased, his body duct-taped to a chair in the basement of his home.
Based on evidence at the scene, authorities say Burleson was the victim of a homicide. The official cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy, but authorities did tell NBC Charlotte there were no apparent gunshot wounds.
The State Bureau of Investigation spent a large part of Monday afternoon canvassing a silver car parked across the street from Burleson's home. Sources say the car does did not belong to Burleson.
Friends of the victim say the home belonged to Burleson's relatives.
The Stanly County Sheriff's Office and the NC State Bureau of Investigation have launched a homicide investigation into Burleson's death.
