ZEBULON, N.C. (AP) -- Authorities say a Johnston County deputy shot and killed a man who ran toward him with a machete.
Investigators say the officer was sent to a home south of Zebulon around 1:30 a.m. Saturday to break up a fight between two men.
When the deputy arrived, authorities say one of the men ran at him with the large knife. The officer shot him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The names of the deputy and the person killed have not been released.
Authorities say the deputy has been placed on administrative leave while the State Bureau of Investigation looks into the shooting.
