LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. -- A firefighter in Lincoln County committed fraud against the two departments he worked for, according to the sheriff’s office.

Lee Thomas Keever is charged with two felony counts of obtaining property by false pretenses, one for the East Lincoln Fire Department and one for the Denver Fire Department.

Investigators say he use fraudulent receipts to take in more than a total of just under $22,000 from each department. Keever allegedly tried to use fake invoices for tuition, classes and equipment. He also handed in bills for work he had no completed and unauthorized credit card purchases, the sheriff’s office says.

Keever turned himself into police.

He was released from custody on a $10,000 bond.
