CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg investigators are trying to find two suspects who mugged a CPCC student Tuesday morning, stealing her iPhone.

But unlike most victims, she didn’t take it lying down.

“I was standing up for myself. That takes guts,” said the teen, who didn’t want to be identified.

She is 18, 5-foot-5 and 110 pounds soaking wet, but don’t let the size fool you.

Around 8 a.m., she had gotten off at her stop near the transit center on 4th Street and was walking to class.

"These girls just ran up behind me, and the bigger one snatched my iPhone away from me," said the 18 year old.

The teen sprinted after the two girls, caught them and tried to talk them into giving back her phone.

"I had some money, and I was like, ‘Please just take the money, if you give me my iPhone back.’ And they were like, ‘No.’ The other one said she wouldn’t give it back, so when I tried to snatch it, she grabbed me by the throat and pushed me against a car because it was in a parking lot."

The suspects took the money, which was only $3, and the phone.

"I was terrified. I mean, I was angry. That was the main thing because my life is literally on that iPhone".

Obviously the teen is brave, but police would say it’s probably not a smart idea to chase the bad guys. Police say victims can get hurt, and it’s not worth it.

The 18 year old says she got her feistiness from her .other.

“She probably would have taught them a lesson."

She says she would probably do it again, but doesn’t recommend it for anyone else.
