ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. -- The Rowan County Sheriff's Office has arrested a 21-year-old man accused of possessing sexually explicit photos of and engaging in sexual relationship with two 15-year-old girls he met on Facebook.

The Rowan County Sheriff's Office says they became aware of the alleged situation involving 21-year-old David James Garland, of Salisbury, after authorities initiated a traffic stop of Garland's vehicle on Monday, January 6.

In the traffic stop, authorities seized a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Deputies became suspicious after determining Garland's passenger was just 15-years-old.

The deputy obtained permission to search Garland's cellphone for "possible drug information", but instead, officials say, deputies uncovered "disturbing pictures and texts" involving underage females.

The Sheriff's Office says Garland met both of the 15-year-old girls on Facebook and began a relationship.

Garland is charged with two counts of indecent liberties with a child, four counts of statutory rape of a 13, 14, or 15-year-old by a defendant six years or more older, two counts and sexual exploitation- permit minor to engage in sex.

Garland's bond was set at $75,000.
