CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a man who crashed a stolen car into a power pole and then fled the scene in east Charlotte on Monday.

Richard Dewayne Long Jr., 22, was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee on Kilborne Drive when he lost control of the SUV and crashed into the power pole around 2 p.m.

Police said Long Jr. tried to run but was caught just a few minutes later by officers a few miles from where he crashed his vehicle.

Long Jr. was charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle, misdemeanor hit-and-run, carrying a concealed weapon and felony speeding to elude.
