CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. -- A man was arrested after deputies said he attacked a 61-year-old woman with a hammer and tried to sexually assault her early Thursday morning.
Samuel Markus Dye, 20, has been charged with attempted murder and attempted criminal sexual contact.
According to the Chester County Sheriff's Office, Dye went to his grandmother's home around 4 a.m. When Dye's father went to check on his son and his mother, he heard her screaming. Deputies said that when he went in the house he saw Dye on top of the woman, hitting her in the head with a hammer.
He was able to pull Dye off of the woman and detain him until deputies arrived.
According to the police report, the woman told police that Dye showed up at her home with a hammer in his hand and began complaining about not having a girlfriend. He said he was going to "get some." That is when Dye began attacking his grandmother with the hammer. The report stated that she tried to stop him and told him that they needed to pray, but that Dye then exposed himself to her and tried to sexually assault her. He then hit her in the head again with the hammer, knocking her to the ground.
Dye is held at the Chester County Detention Center.
