LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) -- Lexington County sheriff's deputies have charged a man with killing a West Columbia man who's been missing since last Christmas.
Sheriff James Metts said detectives served murder and kidnapping warrants on 34-year-old William Thomas Embree Jr., on Tuesday.
Embree is accused of killing 22-year-old Michael Jody George, who is still missing.
Deputies took Embree from the Kershaw Correctional Institution, where he had been since March serving a six-year sentence for aggravated assault and battery.
Warrants accuse Embree of kidnapping George from a bar near Cayce late Dec. 23 or early on Christmas Eve. The warrants say Embree and George knew each other and George was highly intoxicated when he was abducted.
Metts says forensic evidence links Embree to George's disappearance and death.
The sheriff says more arrests are possible.
