CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged a man with involuntary manslaughter and felony death by motor vehicle after a fatal accident early Saturday morning.

The crash happened on Reedy Creek Road.  Authorities say Steven Driggers, 20, was driving an SUV when he crossed the center line striking Reinaldo Rodriguez’s vehicle.

Investigators say Rodriguez was pronounced dead while he was being rushed to Carolinas Medical Center.  His wife and daughter were passengers in the vehicle and were also transported to Carolinas Medical Center.  Officials say their injuries are serious but not life-threatening. They had been released from the hospital by Saturday afternoon.

Police say speed and alcohol are contributing factors to the crash, and the accident remains under investigation.

Driggers will also be charged with DWI and driving after drinking (under 21 years of age).  His bond was set at $30,000, but jail records show he bonded out of jail Saturday afternoon.
