CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A driver accused of fatally striking a woman and leaving the scene has come forward.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say 29-year-old Victor Alfonso-Manzano Mendez came forward late Saturday morning through his attorney.
She told police her client wanted to turn himself into police custody.
Detectives say he confessed to driving the van that ran over Margaret Rutledge. He is charged with felony hit-and-run and driving without an operator’s license.
He was booked into Mecklenburg County Arrest Processing Center.
