ROCK HILL, S.C. -- A man who admitted to stealing money from a donation jar in a Rock Hill gas station will spend 15 years behind bars.

Johnny Ray Kendricks was sentenced Tuesday for that crime and others.

Police say Kendricks stole $70 from the jar, set up for 15-year-old cancer patient Emily Elkins.

Kendricks said he didn’t know the money was for a girl fighting cancer, despite surveillance video showing him reading the flier.

Elkins was too sick to appear in court for the hearing but says she forgives him.
