HICKORY, N.C. -- Three people are in custody in Burke County in connection with an armed robbery at a motel in Hickory.
Hickory Police were called to the Budget Inn in the 400 block of US Highway 70 SW around 10 a.m. Tuesday. When they arrived on the scene, an empty room covered in blood was what officers found.
A witness told officers that 45-year-old Randy McDonald had been shot during an armed robbery by subjects known to him and had driven himself from the scene.
McDonald suffered non-life threatening injuries when officers found him at a residence in Burke County, but he was transferred to Frye Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The Burke County Sheriff's Office arrested three people Tuesday in connection with the robbery: Garrett Allen Via, of Burke County, is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon, while David Allen Pearson and Danielle Renee Hoosier, both of Burke County, are charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon.
