MONROE, N.C. -- Authorities in Monroe say an aggressor who pulled out a knife during an altercation was the one who received injuries.
Monroe Police responded to the 1200 block of Harvard Street around 8:45 p.m. Saturday.
When officers arrived on the scene they found 50-year-old Greg Thomas suffering from a stab wound. Officials tell NBC Charlotte, Thomas was the one who approached the victim and started an altercation. During the disagreement Thomas whipped out his knife, police said.
During a series of events, according to police, the knife was wrestled away from Thomas and he was stabbed in the stomach.
"It's a case of self defense," said Lt. Joe Plyler with the Monroe Police Department. "No charges will be filed," he explained.
When police arrived on the scene, Thomas was found lying in the middle of the roadway. Officials said he was treated and released from the hospital.
