Man stabbed, left for dead in Monroe

MONROE, N.C. -- A man is behind bars facing a charge of assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly stabbing a man and leaving him for dead.

Saturday night, Monroe Police responded to the 300 block of Kerr Street to find Gonsalo Acosta Lopez lying in the middle of the street, bleeding from multiple lacerations.

Authorities say 19-year-old Constantino Jimenez Gomez stabbed Lopez.

Gomez was booked in to the Union County Jail on the charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious bodily injury.

Lopez was taken by EMS to CMC Union for treatment. His condition is not known.
