CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A man who recently had several sex charges against him dropped has been arrested and charged again with a similar crime.

The Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office says the new charges against Lavatae Evans will be taken seriously and judged on their own merits, but the dismissed charges against him won’t be reconsidered.

Police arrested Evans Wednesday afternoon and charged him with rape, kidnapping and sex offenses.  The arrest happened at his home on Brewton Drive.

A girl told police she met Evans at the Transit Center, knew him and agreed to go with him to smoke marijuana.

The girl says when she tried to leave, Evans held her against her will at gunpoint, then took her to his house and raped her.

Evans was in a standoff with SWAT at that same house in December.

Police say he kidnapped two women at gunpoint and forced them to have sex, then sexually assaulted a third woman while police were trying to track him down.

The District Attorney dropped all the charges against Evans, saying the alleged victims gave inconsistent statements and left the hospital before rape kits were performed.

DNA on the gun also came from three different people, officials said.

The process of whether the new charges stick starts Friday when Evans is due in court.
