CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte police said they arrested a man who tied up a restaurant manager and robbed her at gunpoint last month at NorthLake Mall.
Manuel Carranzo, 30, was arrested Wednesday and is charged with second-degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Police said Carranzo robbed the Bravo Cucina Italiana Restaurant at 6851 Northlake Mall Drive 30 minutes after closing on November 25.
Security at the mall was already beefed up for the holiday shopping season. On Black Friday management added extra officers--both private and with CMPD.
The manager was not injured and was able to escape before calling police.
Police believe this case is an isolated incident.
"We think it was a pre-planned event. Nothing has ever happened at that restaurant before, and as a matter of course, looking back historically, it's a very rare occurrence in and of itself for any major restaurant chain to have something like that happen," said Lt. Brian Foley of CMPD'S North Division two weeks ago.
Despite the arrest, police say anyone with more information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
